About the Institute for Conflict Management Academic Programs

The appropriate management of conflict is an integral part of our lives, both personally and professionally.  We may not even be aware of it; but it’s happening all around us, every single day:

  • Negotiation skills are the most critical tool for business leaders in every industry.
  • Ethical problem-solving at the bedside is a necessary tool for health care providers.
  • Consensus-building across the span of affected stakeholders defines sustainable public policy creation.
  • Reconciliation of relationships is at the core of faith-based leadership.
  • Education administrators must first be problem-solvers for learning to advance.
  • The highest levels of customer service require absolute care in the midst of conflict.

Dr. Randy LowryLipscomb University’s acclaimed Institute for Conflict Management (ICM) equips professionals with skills to minimize the costs of unresolved conflict. Growing out of the internationally recognized dispute-resolution work of Lipscomb President Dr. Randy Lowry, the ICM provides on-campus and online master’s programs dedicated to the advancement of conflict management disciplines. With an unparalleled faculty consisting of the nation’s leading experts in their fields, the ICM curriculum incorporates preferred education models including coaching, role-playing, and case-based and experiential studies.

Our Master of Arts in Conflict Management on-campus offering is a 30-hour Master of Arts in Conflict Management program (10 courses) as well as a 15-hour graduate certificate program (5 courses) designed for students seeking advanced instruction and skill development in cross-cultural, business-specific and high-level disciplines. The ICM master’s degree equips students to offer professional-level expertise in conflict management and dispute resolution.

ICM students are typically successful, busy professionals. With its new 30-hour hybrid-online master’s program and its 15-hour hybrid-online graduate certificate program, Lipscomb offers prospective students a strategy for any schedule. This unique “hybrid” program (24 credit hours presented online and 6 credit hours conducted in its dynamic on-campus format) is tailored to meet the needs of students from all walks of life who prefer in-home or in-office study, and has been created in a way that makes online participation as engaging and meaningful as the on-campus course of study.
